Artist: D ANCEY, GRAHAM PHILIP
Title: The Sacred Project
Format: LP
Label: Minimal Wave
Country: USA
Price: $17.25
"The 11th release on Minimal Wave, is Graham Philip DAnceys The Sacred Project EP. A 12" pressed on white 160 gram vinyl, the EP is presented in a matte white cover with a drawing called the Eyes of The Universe printed on it. The project consists of 4 tracks, all of which have been remastered and sound incredibly warm and full. The first track was originally released in 1981 as single entitled Sacred Heart and is highly sought after today. Aside from that single, Graham released several LPs in the early 80s. Alluma, which is a pure analogue synth soundtrack style LP and Chinese, a library LP with some unusual instrumentation plus a couple of killer electronic cuts. Very interesting and wordly stuff. Limited to 500 numbered copies, 160 gram white vinyl." - Minimal Wave.

Artist: D YELLOW SWANS
Title: Live During War Crimes #2
Format: CD
Label: Release The Bats
Country: Sweden
Price: $11.50
"The second volume, this time a collection of darker and more sinister live recordings taken from their tour in Europe early 2006. 42 black minutes of creepy soundscapes painting a depressive picture of a world going down in dust and ashes. The 5 songs all has a weird desperate and dense apocalyptic feel to them, making this a haunting and very bleak experience. Trashy dark rumblings and total coldness. Again very well-edited stuff by Pete Swanson, works more like a full proper album than just a collection of random recordings. Amazing! Comes packaged in a Dual Plover full color sleeve with black felt. Cover drawings by Liz Harris of Grouper. 1000 copies." - Release The Bats.

Artist: D. CHARLES SPEER
Title: After Hours
Format: CD
Label: Sound@One
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"D. CHARLES SPEER returns with a new album of personalized Americana. As one casual listener once noted to the band after a performance, "You guys play both types of music...country and psych." And its true that the sounds contained on After Hours do act on the mind as much as they tug at the heartstrings. Replete with tales of mental breakdown, infidelity, drunken advice, wartime hucksters, heartbreak, and redemption, the first album by D. Charles with his backing band will surely immediately stand out amongst the shards of gothic Americana that litter our fair sonic landscape." - Sound@One

Title: After Hours
Format: LP
Label: Black Dirt
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The inimitable Mr. Speer coined the term himself upon titling his pre-Helix full length release… Forgotten Country. Not so much a forgotten people of a state or a rural area. Not so either some Souths gonna rise again moonshine. More so a return to a way of presenting a music in the context of a tradition (something those boys in the band are pretty high on.) But this isnt your grandfathers Bakersfield were dealing with. Tho the tongue of the balladeer may spin tales ripe with a cast of characters including “the Pastor” Randolph Healey, Cheese Frog, the man from HHS, Uncle Ernie, that guy with the black mustache and red Caddy who stole your girl, and the true born sons of Levi, he sings them not only with the twang of the roadhouse, but tainted with the grit of the streets of the big city. As one casual listener once noted to the band after a performance, “You guys play both types… Country and Psych.” And its true that the sounds contained on After Hours do act on the mind as much as they tug at the heartstrings. Title: Some Forgotten Country
Format: LP
Label: Sound@One
Country: USA
Price: $9.75
"A true solo endeavor, this LP is the debut of D. Charles Speer on long player. Recordings over a span of 4 years have been assembled here into a rumination on loss in its many forms - loss of direction, loved ones, home, mental acuity, money, and emotional stability. Pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl and limited to 500 copies." - Sound@One.

Artist: D. CHARLES SPEER & THE HELIX
Title: Past Or Beyond/Canaanite Builder
Format: 7"
Label: Sound@One
Country: USA
Price: $3.75
"Seeking refuge in songcraft, D. Charles Speer and the Helix spin tales of mental instability and institutional exploitation into a thick, heady, groove laden brew. The professorial attack of the ivories, the sear of the strings, the pounding of drum skins amass into a righteous storm bound to overwhelm those uncoverted. This is an unholy mix of heart ripped vocal, Longhair piano, and guitar work drawing from both Mike Bloomfield and Norman Westberg. Featuring silk screened covers and hand stamped interiors, these retro-radicals propose the final alignment of Khnum with the phoenix." Features members of NNNK and Sunburned Hand Of The Man.

Artist: DAILY VOID
Title: The Eclipse of 1453
Format: 12"
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA

"The third installment in Sacred Bones 12-inch EP series comes from Daily Void. The Chicago band which includes 3/4 of the Functional Blackouts and who cut their teeth with singles for Boom Chick, HoZac, and Floridas Dying pick up where they left off on their previous full length with a half dozen songs of disjointed, death-tinged noisy punk. Shades of Rudimentary Peni and some off the lesser celebrated acts on Crass Records course through this slab of vinyl." - Sacred Bones.

Artist: DAS DING
Title: H.S.T.A.
Format: LP
Label: Minimal Wave
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Minimal Wave presents a full length album by Dutch electro pioneer, Das Ding. Das Ding is Danny Bosten, who was active in the early 1980s releasing his music and friends music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. While studying graphic design in art school, he designed all the tape covers himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, some tracks are quite addictive and danceable while others are more for at home listening enjoyment. The dancefloor killer is somewhere between Reassurance Ritual and H.S.T.A. The record features lovingly remastered tracks, is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and comes in a printed innersleeve featuring artwork by Danny Bosten, and heavyweight outer jacket with photographs by Dima Belush. Definitely one of this years favorites." - Minimal Wave.

Artist: DE MARIA, WALTER
Title: Drums And Nature
Format: CD
Label: De Maria, Walter
Country: USA
Price: $10.50
"..In 1957, (De Maria) graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned his M.F.A. in painting two years later. De Maria and his friend, the avant-garde composer La Monte Young, participated in Happenings and theatrical productions (including very early Fluxus events) in the San Francisco area. In 1960, De Maria moved to New York; here he wrote essays on art, which were published in 1963 in Youngs "An Anthology", and took part in Happenings and multimedia presentations. In 1961, he made his first wooden box sculptures. De Maria and Robert Whitman opened the Great Jones Street gallery in New York in 1963; the same year, De Marias first solo show of sculpture was presented there. This year, he worked as a drummer for the rock group The Velvet Underground. He continued to work in wood, began his "invisible drawings," and composed music. With the support of collector Robert C. Scull, De Maria started making pieces in metal in 1965. De Maria emerged as a leader of the Earthworks movement in 1968 when he filled the Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich with dirt. This year, he also made his The Mile Long Drawing in the Desert in the Mojave Desert for Walls in the Desert, a project, originally conceived in 1962, which is to consist of two parallel mile-long walls. In 1968, he also participated in Documenta in Kassel. A major exhibition of De Marias sculpture was held at the Kunstmuseum Basel in 1972. Earthworks and serial geometric sculpture continue to occupy De Maria in the 1970s: his Three Continent Project was completed in 1972 and the Lightning Field in New Mexico was finished in 1977. That same year, De Maria recreated his Earth Room at the Heiner Friedrich Gallery in New York. The artist lives in New York." -Guggenheim. Self released CD (with almost no distribution) featuring De Marias tribal drumming mixed with field recordings (as the title implies). The two pieces, Cricket Music and Ocean Music, were originally recorded in 1964 and 1968 (evidently with some help from Tony Conrad). Restocked yet again... Very highly recommended!

Artist: DEACON, DAN
Title: Acorn Master
Format: CD EP
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $5.50
"Dan Deacon, an electro-acoustic composer/performer living in Baltimore, is part of the Wham City art collective. The compositional style that best describes Dan Deacons music is Future Shock, a new genre being used to describe a number of the bands emerging from Baltimores growing underground music scene. Musically influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Dans music strives to take contemporary experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities, placing it into the more informal "fun time." His high-energy performances consist of song-structured material performed with Casio keyboard, computer, vocoder and other devices to process his voice, signal generator, etc. Since May of 2004 Dan has been touring almost nonstop throughout the United States. He has performed with Lightning Bolt, Adult., Cat Power, Matmos, Tracy & the Plastics, Video Hippos, Japanther, MF Doom, The Unicorns, Smog, USAisaMONSTER, Arab On Radar, Rainer Maria, Daniel Carter, The Microphones, Lesbians On Ecstasy, Dead Meadow, Kool Keith, OCDJ, Ghengis Tron, Calvin Johnston, Danielson Family, GZA, Bonny Prince Billy, Diplo, Sightings, People Like Us, Blue Oyster Cult, Rasputina, Wolf Eyes, and many others. The Baltimore City Paper named him Best Solo Artist of Baltimore for 2005. Dan has performed live on several radio and televison stations, including three performances WMFU and an interview and performance on NBC news. Acorn Master EP consists of 5 original compositions, 2 of which are instrumental, and a cover of Splish Splash by Bobby Darrin. Psych-O-Path Records will be releasing Spiderman of the Rings full length in Fall 2006." - Psych-O-Path.

Scientific Explanation of Despair are the coolest dudes ever. Totally my biggest idols to date. Personally way more influencial and inspiring then any other band I work with. Artist: DEAD MACHINES/THE HAUNTING
Title: Private Live
Format: LP
Label: Gods Of Tundra
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Red vinyl, edition of 300. One night last winter, Dead Machines and The Haunting performed a gig where the sole audience was the other band (and not cause no one showed up..no one else was invitied). This split LP is a document of this cold night of Distant Sound. Dead Machines began the night with possibly their strangest, most obscure set to date. The two players are Sound and No Sound. More accurately: what I have always thought the sound of a dying machine would be. The Hauntings set is equally as slow. Haze fades in and out. Talk about living rooms and fields and things that are far. Haunting gigs are very few and far inbetween and this happens to be their first. We all felt kinda weird afterwords, but it also totally ruled. Like we all had sex or something. Ewww." - Gods Of Tundra.

Pressed in an edition of 999, and packaged with seven inserts in a beautiful, dark forest-clad box. Previous releases on Last Visible Dog, Jewelled Antler, Digitalis Industries, and Foxglove. For fans of Leviathan, Gorgoroth, Draugar, Xasthur, Burzum, and the like." - Weird Forest.

Artist: DEAD WESTERN
Title: Dead Western
Format: 7"
Label: Weird Forest
Country: USA
Price: $4.00
"In shadow, he appears neanderthal; in light, he waxes angelic. Who is Dead Western? He is a man of a gaping mouth, out of which pours as readily as water from a faucet ” a haunting, bewildering, beautiful voice, reminiscent of Scott Walker (circa Climate of Hunter). This bellowing voice, like an ancient reptile, slithers and wraps itself around the most tender acoustic melodies. Dead Western sounds like a forest growing (the throatless groaning of age-old trees); feels like a Victorian passage through limbo (grey, ominous); looks like a Grecian statue (as drawn by Robert Crumb). This is the sort of music one feels profoundly acquainted with but not something generally found in record format. It is the shifting of rock, the scuttling of insects, the hissing of the wind: frightful, eternal." Limited to 500 copies on clear vinyl with die-cut, full color sleeves." -Weird Forest

Artist: DEATHPILE

Format: CD
Label: Hospital Productions
Country: USA

"After a long silence Deathpile returns with their first official full length release focusing on the Green River Murders in Seattle from the early 1980<92>s. Lyrics are written from the chronological perspective of the killer, exploring key events are balancing truculent physical situations and aberrant psychological terrain, with terse delivery. Nine tracks of dense and rushing power electronics and sado-ambient atmospheres. Fierce, verging on hysterical vocals and well placed and researched audio samples stand above thick and violent synth beds. By far Deathpile<92>s most cohesive, strong, and obsessive work fine turned with stark violent force and ritual atmosphere. Not to be missed for fans of sadistic power electronics! Ten page fold out lyrics insert, and mastering by Scott Hull (Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Pig destroyer/ ex- Anal Cunt/ Japanese Torture Comedy Hour). Artist: DEMONS
Title: Evocation
Format: CD
Label: No Fun
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"Consisting of Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Steve Kenney, Demons explore near-epileptic fits of droning synth textures that elicit comfortable remembrances of electronic-obsessed forefathers like Stockhausen and Cluster whilst simultaneously bludgeoning forward with the grating and scraping atonal complexities of Whitehouse and Throbbing Gristle. Having already rallied a fervorous flux of supporters with discomforting psychedelic multi-media performances and a slew of cryptic releases, among them this years fetishistic Life Destroyer box set, Evocation is an appropriately elaborate and accomplished approximation of their shrewd identity. Subterranean analog rumbles compete with laser-sharp extraterrestial blasts and hums, both contrasts birthing an ominous hallucination of impending dread. The four pieces here fixate into an almost narrative concoction, forming an abstract portrait that feeds its murky sonics into perplexing vibrations that force one forth into their path just as much as they delight in crafting intriguing unease. With artwork contributed by the duos frequent visual collaborator Alivia Zivich, Evocation, which happens to be Demons first CD release, is as apt a proper declaration as any, seamlessly crafting their steady and intricate synth-scapes with the darkly psychedelic images such creations naturally elicit within the psyches of attentive devotees." - No Fun.

"Minimal Wave is proud to present a full length LP by French duo Deux. G鲡rd Pelletier and Cati Tete formed Deux after meeting in Lyon in 1981. Their music can be described as minimal synth with stripped down rhythm compositions and suitably cold duets. Their influences are a perfect blend of Kraftwerk and French synthpop. Between 1983 and 1992, they released a cassette and several rare singles. They also appeared on the V/A BIPP LP (2006) and most recently on V/A The Minimal Wave Tapes: Vol 1 LP. Check out their Felicita video here. The Decadence LP will feature selections of their old material, newly remastered. It is a hand numbered edition, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a heavy matte jacket." -Minimal Wave

Label: Captured Tracks
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"Slightly tussled London quartet Dignan Porch have created an unassuming, but addictive rainy-day bedroom-pop gem with Tendrils, their full-length debut. The hushed, layered, hazy and downcast psychedelia might remind you of various early New Zealand pop crews of the Flying Nun sort (slowed to 1/4 speed). Or you could go back to the UK and talk about Sarah Records, though theres often something weirder woven into the compositions. The 13 songs are brief — the longest is under three minutes, a handful shorter than two — but they work together as a larger patchwork." -Stereogum

"Dimples presents a marrow-deep comprehension of rocks most striking moves, strips them of their parts and leaves them up on blocks, as a warning. “I Can Feel You” chugs and chings through a nervy, slicked-down run through West Coast punk delinquency; “Heaven Blotted Regions” throws out the band and leaves Parme alone with a guitar and a drum machine, ripping out the sort of sleazy, Leisure Suit Larry-esque, yet highly personal ballad that sticks to the wall with effortless attitude. Something like Hanoi Rocks had they recorded for Shimmy-Disc. Two great goddamn songs. 500 pressed." -Mexican Summer

Crackles of electronic fire, tremolo-infused waves of sustained guitar, broken music boxes and found sounds among all other sorts of unfounded wails of gargantuan melancholy drone, Burke and Dimuzios collaboration is a forceful collection of early industrial sound ruination combined with classic Krautrock ambiance of the Tangerine Dream/Cluster ilk reassuringly composed into something wholly modern and powerful." - No Fun

Title: Coyotes Call
Format: LP
Label: Fusetron
Country: USA
Price: $5.50
"Way-above-average improv from Japan. Electric strings (guitars?), saxophones, electronics, and samples move with unexpected ease frommeditative passages to intense blow-outs to free scatter. Sax player Yoshinori Yanagawa plays with the same sort of depth and passion as Albert Ayler--no fakin, no academic rendering. But hes only part of a much larger whole. The wash of precision rumble and sound-tweaking that surrounds everything creates chaos from an intensely ordered technology. Strange (not "weird"), exciting music."-Eddie Flowers. "An intensely intriguing IIIrd album from this Japanese guitar/sax/electronics trio, ostensibly in four parts; parts 01. & 04. being short nursery soundscapes, the curtain rise & fall for the mammoth central volcanic continent which is itself shattered into a flies-eye multitude of alternately blasting, then conversational fragments. Yoshinori Yanagawas saxophones veer between Brotzmanesque screams and the deep bowel-rumble of a severe high-colonic impaction (especially when played at 33.3rpm - later, at 45, things resumed a more distinctly saxophonic tone). Electronics dominate most of the tectonic mood swinging going on; Toyohiro Okazaki (& guest sample wrangler Syohei Iwasaki) comes on like some demonic incarnation of Ron Grainers BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Fujio Kimuras "electric strings" are so convincingly grafted on to electronics wall that they together describe a single, enclosed chunk of improvised airspace, which houses the fluttering horn. Coyotes Call is at times an intense and demanding listen, exploring a kind of electronoise-jazz (sans drums) landmass only hitherto trod by hardy souls (Borbeto/Voice Crack collabs being the obvious precedent). Definitely worthy of much further investigation." -Tim Cornelius; Opprobrium.

If you bought all five original singles - youd have no change from 120 pounds. Dolly Mixture were like the Shangri-las or the Go-Gos if they had any class. Or the Raincoats without the weirdness and electric violins. Dolly mixture toured with the undertones, played john peels 40th birthday party, recorded a wealth of true pop classics, gave u2 a support-act leg-up, wrote songs for lena zavaroni and influenced the whole riot grrrl movement. but floored by on-the-road illness, decooled by captain sensible and dismissed as the slits meet the nolans by a uk music industry too hung up on black leather hipness." - For Us.

"In January and February of this year L.R.J. Martens spent his days in Big Island, Hawaii to focus on the communication of Dolphins. For this lp his encounter with a group of spinner dolphins and humphback whales was translated to audio postcards. In three epic new age compositions Martens seeks the ultimate sound for the Cetacean Nation, of which he is one of the official composers. Traces of esoteric seventies fusion and the 3D universes of Jean-Luc Bozzoli are gently transformed to artistic sound relaxation and aquatic poetry. L.R.J. Martens is one of the key figures in the Belgian DIY avant-garde scene. With labels such as Imvated, Bread and Animals and Taped Sounds he gave new energy to the cassette underground in Belgium. With a background in various noise sensations and neo-dadaistic sound play, he now found his ying and yang in Dolphins Into The Future. A-side) Ke Ala Ke Kua A lucid collage of alt saxophone, tapes, synthesizer, Pacific Ocean waves floating in 7s, Polynesian choirs and poly-rhythms, site-specific birdsounds and walkman. Three chapters to translate the extreme dramatics, spirit, multi dimensions and beauty of the Kealakekua Bay, the Gods pathway. . B-side) Hookenaaha Halawai An emotional-emphatic sound memory of an encounter with a school of Spinner Dolphins and two Humph-Back Whales. Created with the Dave Smith Evolver keyboard, and the angel vocals from the Casio CTK810. Kookika Mokuaina Study for alt saxophone, birdsongs, water and cassette. Being an evocative sound postcard from Hawaiis Big Island, the Orchid Isle. Recorded and mixed iune and iulai 2010 by L.R.J. Martens at Cetacean Nation Studios, Antwerp." - Kraak.

"having abandoned their earlier angry mode these recordings see the door and the window retain their typically inspired but musically inept disposition as they explore their physical and spiritual world and send back their idiosyncratic dispatches. after having spent several years in the late 70s and early 80s rapidly recording and releasing a number of records, nag and bendle decided to start sitting on their recordings Űഠ"why dont we wait 20 years and see if this is still worth releasing?" having an ethos of allowing ridiculous ideas to surface and then meticulously following them to their conclusion, they were bound to pursue this. (around the time of these recordings nag and bendle travelled on a number of strange protracted pilgrimages inspired by a number of popular phrases such as "send him to coventry" and "taking coals to newcastle"). serendipity would have it that at the end of this 20 year wait overground records saw fit this summer to issue a cd release of the door and the windows lp "detailed twang" from the time when tdatw was nag, bendle and mark perry. cynically building upon the marketing opportunity presented by the overwhelming interest shown in that recording, nag and bendle are now releasing this compilation of various tdatw lineups. other info: initially inspired by the first wave of industrial bands and the ethos of diy pioneers like the desperate bicycles and scritti politti, nag and bendle played their first gig and recorded their first single sometime before they bothered to rehearse. playing with an ever-changing lineup tdatw became first gradually rhythmic and then melodic. unhappy to remain in one musical ghetto, they inhabited several Űഠplaying gigs with post punks and ska bands, playing free tours with idealist hippies and gradually becoming deeply involved with the london musicians collective. they co-produced a magazine about the politics of record production, hosted the seminal "jazz punk bonanza" festivals of 1980, 82 and 86 and ran the weirdly eclectic sprouts conspiracy cabaret club. nag and bendle also played in the 49 americans and the liberated sound octet, nag played with mark perry and karl blake in the reflections and bendle with the casual labourers and the late music group." - TDATW. Title: Palm Fronds
Format: CD
Label: Catsup Plate
Country: USA
Price: $8.75
"The Double that you hear on Palm Fronds is very different than what founding members David Greenhill and Jeff McLeod originally conceived. The band began as a guitar/drum math-rock-cum-outre-blues duo replete with intricate time signatures, multiple song sections, and an overall sense of angular complexity. After time, the two decided to focus on simplified musical structures and a more fleshed-out instrumentation and added two new members, Donald Beaman and Jacob Morris. But prior to recording what would be called Palm Fronds, Jeff hurt his handŰѳŰѹpreventing him from drumming while it healed. Instead of postponing the recording, the band opted regroup and reconceive of the songs without the traditional drum kit. They experimented with drum machines and other electronic textures, learning as they went along. "Mistakes" that sounded good were left in (the band has a deep respect for Enos approach to music making a la Oblique Strategies, etc.) and discoveries used in one song influenced the sound palette in the others. The songs quickly took on a unique sound that was reminiscent ofŰѳŰѹbut ultimately distinct fromŰѳŰѹthe bands live shows. Because of this, Palm Fronds is a compelling listen on a number of levels. The songs themselves could be described as singer-songwriter in scope; I hear echoes of mid-to-late period Smog and even "Horse With No Name"-era America (especially on "Standing on a Levee," though some folks disagree). But the production, drum machines, and general vibe have a wonderfully overmodulated digital crunch, plenty of echo, broken electronics and all sorts of whatsit thrown into the mix. Which is to say that all that songwriter stuff, when The Double finally let you hear it, owes a lot to a bunch of digital dub and experimental electronic types. But through all this Palm Fronds has an impeccable balance; the production never overwhelms or obscures the essential song. So with Palm Fronds youve got ear candy AND brain candy when you get right down to itlucky you." - Catsup Plate.

Country: USA
Price: $3.75
"1981/1982 recordings from Seattles noisiest hardcore band. They were formed by two thirtysomething ex-hippies with distortion boxes and a drum machine who fell in love with the local hardcore scene, recruited some young punks, and recorded a bunch of racket that was out of step with the world. They appeared on the 1983 What Syndrome cassette compilation tape along with the Fartz, the Rejecters, Mr. Epp, Silly Killers, and Solger, and played loud, noisy, and primitive punk rock. These recordings were lost for 25 years until now.... Think Forming-era Germs meet Bobby Sox or something equally as awesome and youll be close." - Dirty Knobby.

Title: Imperial Distortion
Format: Double CD
Label: Hospital Productions
Country: USA
Price: $12.25
"What does a person do when faced with a work like Imperial Distortion? There are rare moments in an artists work where they reveal a greater truth. Kevin Drumm has already made such a statement with his last major solo work, 2002s Sheer Hellish Miasma. Where that record took noise music to a new level of near-impenetrable exactitude, Imperial Distortion is an altogether different beast. Beauty as an aesthetic can be as terrifying as horror, desire unfulfilled, romance that lingers and never goes away, no matter how disappointing. A preoccupation with death can be the only result. On this extended long-form release, Kevin Drumm comes face to face with minimal drone music and confronts the genre by providing one of its absolute pinnacles at the forefront; movement. Drone music at its most concentrated and ably performed has build and depth in its tones. Although there might be the illusion of stasis, the opposite is true. From the opening 20-minute track Guillain-Barre, the mood of the album is laid clear. The arrangements are shadowy layers of soundtrack-like tones not entirely unlike the work that Popul Vuh provided for Herzogs films. By track two, More Blood and Guts, with its ominous bell tones, it becomes apparent that there is a true nothing thats associated with these sounds, other than the mood-inducing hypnosis and the feeling of drowning, yet having no ability to fight the slow pull. The middle portion of the record is Snow, which was released as a limited cassette last year on Hospital Productions. This material was a teaser for the full album Imperial Distortion. The tracks have an almost ballad-esque sense of elegance, using tone and frequency as melodic portals to nowhere. The sustain in the piece suggests a weight while remaining alarmingly pleasant to the ears. The tension suggests an anxiety that never truly dies. The alarm comes from the juxtaposition of tones and mood. While the tones may sound gorgeous in their purity, the mood implies a profound sense of unease and perhaps an acceptance of the inevitability of existential dilemma. This point is most thoroughly evidenced by the albums closer, We All Get It In the End. While the piece starts out with lullaby ease, a few minutes in, an equally severe dark drone eclipses the light and the night takes over. Here in the enveloped sounds, the clouds pass over the moonlight creating a spectral dark that is unforgettable in its intensity. To answer the initial question of Imperial Distortion, this is a work that commands intellectual and emotional commitment on the levels of the greatest works to come from this genre. Kevin Drumm has accomplished that rare balance to create a masterwork that no one has yet to come close to in this era. Your best bet is to surrender."-Hospital. Repressed!

"Formed in 2001, the Duchess of Saigon were Mary and Richard. Two artists, they met at UC Davis, started seeing each other and then formed a band. Though Richard had been in a handful of Sacramento bands (Rick & the Young Rogues, Sir & the Young Men), Duchess was Marys first band. She was handed the drum duties...and good thing, too! Because she was unencumbered by formal lessons, Mary developed a unique drumming style in which she would keep the beat with her feet and play the melody with her hands. The unconventional approach to percussion, as well as her ethereal backing vocals, gave Richards VU-influenced garage-pop songs an excellent twist. Byron Coley of The Wire likened them to the Carpenters if played by the Shaggs. The first time I saw Duchess of Saigon, they were horrible. Just a goddamn mess of a band. However, the second time, six months later, they convinced me they were the best band in town and I hurriedly asked them if I could put out a record. That record is Easter Queen. We pressed 300, it finally went out of print. Another Sacramento label, Plastic Idol, put out their second seven inch. It is as good as the first. The Duchess were working on an album, but recording and equipment problems kept dragging the project on. Mary, frustrated with her drumming, lost interest and quit. About a year later, both Mary and Richard picked up and moved to Florida and then to Detroit. Fall of 2010, I was going through the S.S. archives and came upon a tape from the 2005 abandoned album sessions. Wow! Time has been very, very good to the Duchess of Saigon! I bumped into Richard when he was visiting Sacramento and proposed to put out a limited pressing of unreleased Duchess songs. He said, "Go for it!" and here it is! This limited edition contains 16 songs culled from sessions recorded by Chris Woodhouse from 2002 to 2005, every one of them as good as anything on the Duchess of Saigons two aforementioned EPs. Sleeve designed and screened by S.S. 300 pressed. "-S.S.

"Dear Matt, Its confetti for memories! your buddy Charles and the sunday afternoon gripfest staring, check this out: "Little Man Tate" and "Little Big Man", super funny, as well as a dusty tough to read flick called, you know i got carrots for brains, "Pipeline"! So, you know every trilogy needs the curveball, and well, "Pipeline" has got to be uncle charlie. I found these videos in the basement of chateau terrace antwerp, but its super gritty kitty down there and i just grabbed three quickies. So I just put on your jams, and i am gunna watch Pipelines surf visions and scope your memories and sunbake. but man, Pipelines front flap video tape protection is busted, so i am gunna trade it with "You Got Mails" front flap, at this point i have to duck into my roomates zone and grip his RCA to Mini jack, but he has a sign posted that reads "STAY OUT OF MY ROOM". super funny, but later i am gunna take the sign, cross out "ROOM" and insert "DREAMS", put the sign on my wall, let somebody specials red orange lipstick make out with it, so that the guy knows hes a cutie and chazzis touched by freak. But so check it, i had to grip this RCA to Mini jack so that i can grip your memories and watch Pipeline. Hey man, for real though, member when we were on the beach in barcelona, before our car got towed, and we were cruising to beverly hills cop soundtrack, The Master and Carmen San Diego were in the back, we got to the beach jumped in the water drank beer ate coconuts and got massages while staring at boob people. at that moment, like when we snuck into the berlin film festival and danced Oceans 11, wow, my roomate just came home, hes wearing a long party wig and telling chazzi that he shagged all night long in a squat called "Duel 3", no joke; but yeah, i cannot, for the parrot in me, forget those times, to each his own future, So wait, back to Pipeline,, no wait, i got to tell you about this party last full moon, my roomate throws one every month when the moons light eclipses that of the rational minds hesitations, and well i had to dj, i wanted to, but i brought the parrot along, you met him right? he is always there when chazzy does the radio show or when monopoly needs vocals on a bamboo track, but neither of us invite this guy to the parties where those other dreams come true. its not cool, so i brought him along, you know his name right? Belafonte, so belafonte and i start dj-ing, you know that song from Police Academy called "I got to be somebody" by Jack Mack and a Hearttack? stars and ecstasy, for real, and jel doctor was getting me buckets of beer, cuz it was so hot and the air is full of short stuff, so i flip the records and repeatedly fend off requests for beat it and dirty diana, and all of a sudden Belafonte has drank all my beer and is smoking cigarettes, there are no tickets for free coldies, and i get pretty pissed, i kinda let Belafonte have it, you know, telling him that i cant take him anywhere, gnorm the gnome style, and hes like "alright, you go get some more beers", wow, your mirror jam just cruised in - memories... so, yeah, Belafonte is like "go, get some more beers and let me talk some of these girls into dancing with us and you will be calling me Most Valuable Vertabrae, birdtalk magazine style, so i get a bunch of coldies cuz tod god just came through with some bready poo, i come back to the dance floor, and well, i guess Belafonte burnt his head on his own cigarette, and this girl named Manon, but he understood as Emanuelle, like schnikies!! well his head is burnt and this black paint starts rubbing off his head, and i notice that there is paint on my neck, my face, and on her face, and her neck, and so on and so forth CSI style, and everybody kind of understands, the girls have taken this black paint and are marking it on their bodies like war paint initiation style, and they are petting Belafonte like hes the unattainable, i had no idea that this parrot was a model for Birdtalk Magazine back in its hey day, group therapy is affective... later i asked Manon for some affection, and she said "no, your feet are too dirty", on account of me wearing flippers to a dance party, and was like cool, its not even july 4th yet, but then, as i walked away she was like "Three O Clock, meet me at the Zoo!" no joke, Belafonte and me were like ah kuku ah kaka bamboo-for-two style... Stories are forever and i got to get back to PIPELINE, which is hitting the screen right now, and its definitely not about surfing and reminds charles of when Ebay and you stayed at the new york dantes microchip apartment and it was so hot and you guys passed out next to each other in your undies exclusively like siamese pipeline limbo style, if i had hoagie it would have been chazzi to chucky in like 4 doners and sixty seckies... Title: Identical Sunsets
Format: LP
Label: ESP-Disk
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Best known for his collaborations with people like Paul Flaherty, Michael Flower and Thurston Moore as well as a year-and-a-half stint as the drummer for Bj Volta tour, Chris Corsano is widely considered to be one of the best and most adaptive drummers of his generation. Equally adaptive is UK saxophone giant, Paul Dunmall, who has worked disparately with jazz greats like Alice Coltrane and Evan Parker as well as funk and folk acts like Johnny Guitar Watson and Dando Shaft. After a chance meeting in a taxi line at the Lisbon Airport, a surreal intertwining of tours emanated. In between the lasers, confetti and face-painted fans at Plymouth Pavillions and Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Chris left the Bjmega-tour to get down to business alongside the prolific and imaginative Dunmall for some vital improvisation at Slak Bar in Cheltenham, England. This wonderfully recorded live set begins with Dunmall swirling away on the border pipes (he may be the preeminent improvisor using bagpipes). What follows is an impulsive and lyrical improvisation, alternatingly sparse and impossibly textured. Corsanos skittering marries perfectly with Dunmalls rapid-fire lines. The melodies are expertly uncoiled so that they remain charged whether the tempo is at full speed or crawling. The set ends furiously and with the impression that this duo was fated to work together." - ESP-Disk.
