Artist: EASTENBURIA
Title: Picture Disk
Format: Picture Disc LP
Label: Japan Overseas
Country: Japan
Price: $15.00
"Summer of 1999 Dave Nuss of NNCK and Rita Ackermann traveled to Japan for the book release of Revelations, a chronicle of the Father Yod dynasty penned by Byron Coley and illustrated by Ackermann. While there they scored a record deal for Angelblood with Capt. Trip, and traveled to Osaka to record an album for Japan Overseas with the Yoshimi and Atari of the Boredoms, joined by in-house musician Yoshida. Recording and recording, only breaking to visit the local Shinto shrine, the ensemble found their sound in a blend of NNCK primitive shaman percussion with the Boredoms penchant for electronically-inspired repetition, Ritas Eastern European vocal eccentricities, and the ocassional strum of the sitar. Yoshimi handled all mixing and re-mixing. A beautiful full-color picture disc with art by Yoshimi and Rita. Is it middle-eastern? Indeed, it is Eastenburia." --S@1. “Sounds like one long drug overdose.” - Scaruffi. Last copies of this 2000 release.

Artist: EFFI BRIEST
Title: Rhizomes
Format: LP
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Rhizomes is the debut full length from the all-female outfit, EFFI BRIEST. The nine-song opus, Rhizomes, unleashes a propulsive beat that drives angular guitars and bone chilling vocals over dark bass, dense drones and clattering, dance-like percussion. The atmospheric psychedelia owes as much to Arthur Russell as to Amon Duul. Rhizomes includes two of the bands UK singles on Loog Records, and seven more previously-unreleased original songs. There are brilliant videos for both singles; the cinematic “Long Shadow,” directed by Brandon LaGanke, is making its way around the internet, and showcases the six-piece during their most formidable hour. Mak Kerns stunning animation for EFFI BRIESTs palindrome song, “Mirror Rim,” is bound to boomerang back if you missed it the first time. Coming soon is a split with Peaches on Blast First Petite as part of the labels ongoing 12-inch tribute series to Suicide." -Sacred Bones

Artist: EGYPT IS THE MAGICK #
Title: How Many Pieces of the Puzzle Can the Mind Go Without?
Format: CD
Label: Sound @ One & Psycho-Path
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
Egypt is a collaboration between Adam Mortimer, Dave Shuford, and other members of the No Neck Blues Band commune. Spaced out experimental trance psychedelia. Sun Ra meets Beefheart on the way to Afganistan. American Siloah? NYC YaHoWha 13? In any case, Egypt is the magick. - Bruce Huyuss.

Title: The Valentine Process
Format: LP
Label: Mad Monk
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Egypt is the Magick #, the duo of Adam Mortimer and Dave Shuford (NNCK, Suntanama, Coach Fingers, Enos Slaughter, etc) (plus a mysterious third member) return after a seven year hiatus with an LP of archival material that somehow bests their massive CD on Psych-o-Path all those years ago. Beautiful full color covers and 180 gram vinyl, only 500 copies so hurry!" - Mad Monk.

Artist: ELECTRIC BUNNIES
Title: Pretty Joanna
Format: 7"
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $3.75
"THE ELECTRIC BUNNIES have already come into their own releasing a string of singles and touring regularly. Late last year, Floridas Dying dropped Through The Magical Door-a debut album hailed as the S.F. Sorrow of fuzzy sludge pop that topped just about everyones "best of" lists. Though it may be a little while longer before we get another full length, this single captures both the noisy and saccharine sweet sides of the band and should keep fans sated for now. "I Swear Ill Never Let You Go" is a two and a half minute downer-pop gem, four harmonies and all. The A-side, "Pretty Joanna," is virtually the opposite with a melody buried under layers of warm cascading fuzz and feedback." - Sacred Bones.

Artist: ELECTROPHILIA
Title: Black Noise Practitioner
Format: Double LP
Label: Skul
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"In 1979 Steven Parrino first performed "guitar grind" which consisted of two guitars grinding into each other screaming feedback and sonic bliss. In 1997 Parrino conceptualized what was to be his new musical focus, a sound electric and brutal, and after a few small obscure shows, ELECTROPHILIA was born. A hard to find 10 inch lp, cd single and 7" single were released between then and 2002 when Jutta Koether, long time noise & performance artist in her own right, joined the band. With Koether and Parrrino mashing ideas and sounds ELECTROPHILIA has expanded and made its presence felt in shows around NYC. These shows have been documented, and four have been collected and turned into this double lp release: ELECTROPHILIA Black Noise Practitioner. The sound of ELECTROPHILIA evokes a mix of the sonic denseness of Lou Reeds Metal Machine Music, the free screech of Albert Ayler, the extreme attack of Merzbow and the raw dirt of the Stooges. ELECTROPHILIA is extreme psychedelic noise; brutal electric bass manipulations interwoven with freezing synth textures. Includes guest musicians: trk. 1: Christopher Pahud (Honey for Petzi). trk. 3: Lizzi Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance, Angelblood) & John Gernand." - Skul. Jutta Koether was a member of Diadal with Rita Ackermann and also released the Outer Sound Project CD of Ecstatic Peace. Beautiful gatefold jacket.

"Dark Entries Records is proud to announce the reissue of the debut album by Eleven Pond. Long sought after by collectors, the Rochester, NY band only released a single LP in their time together before dissolving into obscurity. Their sounds a merging of post punks dark dance and synthpops melodic arrangements reflected the originality of gifted songwriters who met in art school with a shared interest in 4AD and Factory Records. In cooperation with the band members, the entire album has been remastered from the original 2-track analogue masters by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The recordings on this release comprise the bands entire recorded output and the LP includes a 2009 redesign by Jeff Gallea of Eleven Pond: 11x11 cardstock lyrics/artwork sheet, 2 Eleven Pond postcards and 1 Dark Entries Sticker. Eleven Pond officially parted ways in 1987 but nearly a quarter-century later these recordings prove how vital they remain." - Dark Entries.

Title: Nature O Nature
Format: 7''
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $4.00
"Sparsely arranged folk from Absinthe Minds member Max Elliott. The central Wisconsin singer/songwriter?s dark acid folk hovers close around the lone guitar/vocal arrangements with subtle percussive accompaniment at points. This is not the folk of Jewel or Devendra Banhardt?think along the lines of Beard of Stars-era T-Rex or Simon Finn?s Pass The Distance. Raspy voiced tales of death, woe, and redemption. If you were quick enough to catch the 13-song cassette on Jerkwave last year you know what you?re in for; if you missed it, don?t sleep on this one." -Sacred Bones

Artist: EMACIATOR
Title: Coveting
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Misery wears many masks, but Tulare, California fatalist Jon Borges has etched his mark on most of them. For at least half a decade, hes pursued increasingly suicidal tendencies under his Pedestrian Deposit guise (which is currently on hiatus), splicing subdued loops of morbid beauty against savage canyons of harsh noise histrionics. Lately, though, hes been straying more and more from this aggressive exercise in contrasts in favor of his Emaciator alias, which draws from the same dark wellspring of bitter memories and bipolar rage but, instead of unleashing it in grand frenzies, bottles everything up inside until it seeps out of the pores. Early efforts/cassettes retained a strain of buzzing nausea reminiscent of his PD days, but the last 12 months have witnessed a complete abandonment of any ties to the past. Times are still bleak, sure, but the grey prisms of brooding ambience Borges now conjures and slowly collapses convey a depth of mood and subtlety far surpassing simple signifiers like indifference, resentment, or remorse. Coveting collects together five exquisite Emaciator compositions (including two particularly riveting songs that were debuted live at Echo Curio) for a harrowing 40 minutes of troubled solace, crisscrossing suicide guitar lines, and entranced self-reflection. Meditation is a myth; desire does not sleep. Black vinyl LPs in shrinkwrapped jackets with photography and layout by Borges. Mastered by Pete Swanson, edition of 430."-Not Not Fun

Title: Hallo Milk
Format: CD
Label: Schneeball
Country: Germany
Price: $12.00
"The No-Neck Blues Band presents the music of Embryo in anticipation of collaborative double LP to be released by De Stijl in September. Embryo is the longest running of the German underground collectives, formed by Christian Burchard after he left Amon Duul 2 in 1969. "Bremen 1971" and "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" (1972) present the band at their peak period of Kraut - jazz -psych exploration, with "Father" being one of the peak records of its genre. "Live" (1976) has Embryo at a weaker point, caught in a "Bitches Brew"-obsessed fusion era that would soon be abandoned by Burchard and company for Eastern leanings. "Reise" (1978) and "(La Blama Sparozzi)" (1980) are pinnacle acheivements of their kind, presenting Embryos progressive sound combined with that of the indiginous musicians they encountered while caravan traveling throughout Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and India. "Hallo Mik" (2003) lets you hear what Embryo is up to now, which is a sort of hybrid cache of ethnicities, a world music for savants, and features Chris Karrer and Deiter Serfas of Amon Duul 2 and Lothar Stahl of Checkpoint Charlie, among others. A warning for the wise: those with a low tolerance for ethno-jazz best not venture past 72, and then wait for the NNCK collabo record which we understand minimizes the funk." -Schneeball

Artist: ENOS SLAUGHTER
Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Sound @ One & Conduit Creations
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"On Sunday is the initial release of recorded material from ENOS SLAUGHTER: a collaboration of three peripherial, improvising characters based in NYC. Between the years of 00 and 02 David Shuford (of No-neck Blues Band and Suntanama), Marc Orleans (Sunburned Hand of the Man) and Carter Thornton (IZITITIZ) met regularly at Harlems Hinthouse, documenting each meeting on an insect field recorder. The music on this album is born from those sessions. The resulting material contrasts heavily abstract, electric, arhythmic explorations with foot stomping, acoustic, drone centered swimming. A description of the instrumentation may serve to describe the music better than any genre comparison: banjos, clavinet, trombones, bowed and plucked strings, disoriented electric guitars and a range of sounds from unidentifiable sources can all seen at different times approaching and receding just below the surface. Aptly described by a regular onlooker as "mind erasure". Vinyl only, limited to a pressing of 500." - Conduit Creations.

Title: Saloth Sar
Format: CD
Label: Sound @ One
Country: USA
Price: $10.00
"Yes yes, heres new molten sounds from three cats taking cues from a bat wielding spirit. Saloth Sar Űḣontains two massive tracks from Enos Slaughter, all electric and poking a thumb in third eyes everywhere. Electric guitar, bozuk, trashcan moog sounds, and mystery sources combine to create a throbbing piece of alienation that retains a weird undercurrent of lyricism. Space lute meets the human string incinerator. Housed in a beautiful package, this release includes graphics culled from Cambodias S21 prison archives. The imagery hopes to argue a sensible point: the abolition of the military of US. Featuring members of Sunburned, IZITITIZ, and NNCK." - Sound@one.

Artist: ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE
Title: Standing Still, Facing Forward
Format: LP
Label: Amish
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Brian Pyle is Ensemble Economique. This is the first LP release from Ensemble Economique. Digitalis issued the At the Foot of Nameless Roads CD in 2008. Both recordings are important primers to Pyles nascent invocations of Holger Czukays Cannaxis (on No GPS) and Karlheinz Stockhausens Kontake (on At the Foot). With Standing Still, Facing Forward Ensemble Economique provides the most mature realization of Pyles compositional process, which utilizes found sounds, field recordings, and musical performance that he later meticulously edits, layers, and loops in the studio. The effects of these processes are dramatic, cinematic and conceptually rigorous and this recording evidences Pyle as an important new composer emerging out of the long and storied tradition of West Coast experimentalism. Utilizing a delicate combination of the homespun improvisation of his other project, Starving Weirdos (whose work sounds like an American echo of AMM) with his own unique variation on the European avant-garde in Ensemble Economique, Pyles practice involves a dense approach to composition akin to assemblage. But unlike electronic and laptop composition, Pyles studio work aims to re-establish an organicism associated with live (or, in the case of the field recordings, lived) performance that pushes the studio out into nature and nature into the studio. In short, the Northern Californian landscape plays an integral part in Ensemble Economiques soundscapes, and this record captures much of the atmosphere of Pyles home terrain." LP comes wrapped in a letter-pressed band and contains a 16-page art book." -Amish

Title: Sateenkaarisuudelma
Format: Double LP
Label: Kraak
Country: Belgium
Price: $20.00
"Sateenkaarisuudelma is my fourth solo album under the name Es. The double LP is a trilogy containing three independent parts: Sateenkaarisuudelma, Maailmankaari and Pianokaari. Sateenkaarisuudelma contains songs Ive played live since 2002. These songs were composed and recorded during the same period I made Kaikkeuden kauneus ja k䳩tt䭤tts cd. At some point it became obvious I was doing two albums at once. Also I soon realised that these songs would benefit and work well in vinyl format allowing me to divide songs to different sides and also give them an aging and changing format. With Sateenkaarisuudelma ready for pressing already in July 2004 I started my journey to Canada, Toronto where I studied fine arts for four months. During this time I also made a ten day tour in USA with Miriam Goldberg on cello, Jeffrey Alexander on guitar and effects, Tara Burke on vocals and keyboard. Shary Boyle did live drawings on overhead projectors. It was an excellent collaboration and the fruits can be heard on the second LPs side C. Maailmankaari I and II were recorded in Boston at the WMBR radio station. Side D finishes of the trilogy with two songs composed as early as 2002. Ive recorded the first song Universaali totuus at least five or six times. This version was recorded in June of 2005 just before sending it to pressing. Pianokaari was mutilated, cut and changed for three years. These two songs span the whole duration of the recording and creation of this double album. All this time Juri Puhakka was working on the drawings on the sleeves. Featured on the cover is me with rainbows ponting directly at my hands. It represents hope for understanding dreams are within ones grasp. Other musicians featured on the covers are Suvi M䫩nen who has been a part of the Es live line-up many times. Jan Anderzen and I have collaborated on so many occasions that the facts get blurred. Elissa M䤴t䮥n has appeared on all but the first album and continues to contribute her vocals to Es live shows as well as the recorded releases. Other musicians on the album are Jeffrey Alexander and Miriam Goldberg from the Black Forest / Black Sea duo and Laura Naukkarinen (aka. Lau Nau). All my gratitude goes out to these people who have been an integral part in the birth of this double LP." - Sami S䮰䫫il䮀

Title: Alternation
Format: Double LP
Label: Fusetron
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Half-recorded in one blizzard, and completed by the next, Alternation is a years-in-the-making, tossed-off-in-a-moment exploration of the difference between EXCEPTER live on stage and EXCEPTER alone at home and the goal to eradicate the distinction between the two. Double the length and twice the depth of past EXCEPTER releases, Alternation is EXCEPTER looking both ways, a geometric expansion around all the territories marked so far in their brief discography: the primal death trips of Ka, the noise pop tropics of Vacation, the long drone goodnight of Throne, the cool electro doom of Self Destruction and the blasted steam cycle of Sunbomber." - Excepter Double LP in heavy duty, full color gatefold jacket. "Excepter is the new group spearheaded by J F Ryan, former electric tree-branch swinger for the No-Neck Blues Band. Using a mutating system of synchronized electronics engineered to ensure live sequencing, Excepter seeks to carry freestyle composition from the tip of the tongue on down to the ones and zeros. All tracks on this LP were performed and mixed live to stereo. Digital editing was only used to arrange the phantasmagoric second side, a tribute to HP Lovecrafts novella Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath. Excepter also marks the singing debut of dancer/choreographer Caitlin Cook. Guaranteed to make you dream in color."

Price: $8.25
Recording Notes: "Self Destruction" was recorded in the winter of 2004 and mixed, edited and reprocessed mostly in the winter of 2005. Űඓelf DestructionŰ෠is the first Excepter record to be feature multi-track recording and overdubbing. Outside of Dan Houglands drum programming and a few vision directives from producer John Fell Ryan, the playing is entirely improvised by the group. Űඓelf DestructionŰ෠is also the first Excepter record to prominently feature the polyphonic synthesizer playing of Nathan Corbin. The husband-wife duo of Caitlin Cook and Calder Martin make the final statement on the album as they take sole vocal duties on the last track, Ű඙our House.Ű෠This recording has been edited short for maximum sonic impact on vinyl." "First off, Self Destruction is a house record. Perhaps more in spirit than in its realized form, but if that sounds like a joke, stop reading. New Yorks most amorphous five-necked entity (which includes Other Musics own Dan Hougland) have never been strangers to taking the longer, more undulating gravel road, as evidenced by the stretched out subterranean sermons on last years Ka album. On Self Destruction , Excepter crawl out of the cellar and into the warehouse. This is a house record. If Xenakis had made one. It is throbbing mental machine music that (much like the quintets live shows) appears to detour, but often climaxes with the religious fervor of a Wicker Man/Moodymann ritual. Definitely more Black Mahogani than Black Dice. Excepter just traveled all over New Weird America, and torched it in the process. Incendiary." - AK, Other Music.

Title: Throne
Format: CD
Label: Siwa
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"Like a group groped Helen Keller all too drugged out to protest, the New York City based EXCEPTER weaves a dangerous course through the orange cones of cortex caressing sound. Drawing from boom-box emitters as disparate as CHROME, COMUS, and that weird-ass Indian techno music you heard eating that Somoza. Frequently lumped in with bands in their zip code like GANG GANG DANCE, SIGHTINGS, and ANIMAL COLLECTIVE and the NO NECK BLUES BAND, they are actually much more of a confrontational question mark. Lots of floor crawling stage exclamations make the band more slippery than a greased watermelon. With a lineup jamming out unclear instrumention but perhaps including detritus of Casios, battery needin samplers, six string part catalogs and occasional percussion, they manage to craft a deeply and creepily eerie sound that includes sounds from all over the radio dial. One could easily relax to this record and have ones heart forget to stop beating. Two of the songs on the record, "Jrone (Two)" and "Jrone (Three)" are on the "KA" record, but in extremely mutilated formats due to reworkings to the point that they lie naked and throbbing like a gum wrapper in Gitmo Base." - Load.

Title: Vacation/"Forget Me"
Format: 12"
Label: Fusetron
Country: USA
Price: $7.50
"Even though it would be wrong not to consider these protest songs against the back porch policies of certain undisclosed and secure locations, we shouldnt let THEM come between us. EXCEPTER says, "Yeah, well play" ... freestyle, the crawl, the butterfly, the breast, the rest. "How long will you stay?" Just as expressions and intuitions reflect the oceans unleashed, there is no desert island, dig, just the big, bare teeth of EXCEPTER there, smiling beneath. "You forgot something?" To survive the coming weather, you are going to need to know a sailor, a captain, an engineer, a figurehead, as well as a pirate, so SHOW ... A continuous stream of music split into two sides. ŰḐerformed and mixed live to stereo. SS EXCEPTER:"Were only a world away." - Excepter. "For the second time in a row now, one of Brooklyns grandest experimental entourages have presented us with a sonic totem whose jaunty and bright packaging belie an almost certain palpable sense of unease. This new twelve-inch is entitled "Vacation", and here Excepter have perhaps crafted a treatise on nothing less than the uncomfortable aspects of having to leave oneshome. Or they may well have been channeling the soundtrack to a particularly bizarre road trip I once went on involving an Indian burial ground, a cross eyed woman Xeroxing chain letters at a supermarket, and an extremely sadistic alligator farm outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas where I witnessed a stuffed Fiji Merman. Unease indeed. But of course, like on any worthy and good vacation, once youve become used to new unsettling sensations like foot blisters and sunburn you realize how sublime the landscape is. And sublimity is what Excepter trades in spades. Side-one positions the moment where you have trouble getting your bearings, trouble putting your surroundings into perspective. The rhythms are all displaced, their center of gravity slackened by synths squiggling all willy-nilly looking for something to latch onto. Side-two, "Forget Me," is where everything comes into focus -- like a photograph that you can spend some time with to chart your inner progress. This track could be Excepters pop moment, their breezy road trip down the Autobahn (and here the Kraut reference is especially apt). Pistons fired, these beats are allowed to lope carefree into the coming summers new season of discontent. Ex-ceptional." - Michael Klausman; Other Music.

Since the late 90s EXIAS-J have been conjoining the worlds of free music and modern composition by employing free improvisation in variously structured approaches ranging from jazz and rock rooted forms to avant-classical and performance art settings. Sabu Toyozumi is a true giant of Japanese free music with a history running from his involvement with Masayuki Takayanagis New Direction Unit in the late 60s through his work with Kaoru Abe , Peter BrŰ㲴zmann, Takashi Mizutani (Rallizes Denudes), Keiji Haino and a veritable whos who of internationally known improvisers. There is a sonic clarity to this new studio recording that might help elucidate the underlying musical structure on the two previous live Electric Conception recordings (available on PSF). That said, with one stated goal being the disruption of the hierarchies of instrumentation through the application of electro-acoustics this frequently creates a dense, shifting sonic mass that should make even ardent noise fans feel quite at home. Edition of 500 copies packaged in screen printed gatefold covers." - SIWA.
