Artist: NAGAMATZU
Title: Sacred Islands Of The Mad
Format: LP
Label: Dark Entries
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Dark Entries is honored to present the highly limited second cassette by British duo Nagamatzu for the first time ever on vinyl. °∞Sacred Islands of the Mad°± is a collection of eleven tracks recorded between December 1984 and March 1986 in London by Andrew Lagowski (SETI, Legion, Terror Against Terror) on synths, guitar, and drum machines and Stephen Jarvis (Pure Motorised Instinct, Terraform) on synths, bass and programming. Nagamatzu began in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their name comes from a character in JG Ballards °∞Atrocity Exhibition°± and their music reflects his influence and incorporates carefully chosen samples from the Challenger shuttle disaster, Gregorian chants and films including °∞Dawn of the Dead°± and °∞The Omen.°± All the songs were recorded onto a Ferrograph reel to reel in a small room at their parents house and some of the backing rhythms and sequencers were recorded first onto cassette and then the band played along live. Nagamatzus instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire and early New Order or Cocteau Twins. °∞Sacred Islands of the Mad°± is a complex, textured tapestry of sound full of dark electronics, fresh harmonies and danceable rhythms. All songs have been remastered especially for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios from the original cassette masters. Each LP is limited to 500 hand-numbered copies and includes a newsprint zine full of fliers, gig tickets, ads, and photos." -Dark Entries.

Title: Uva
Format: 3" CD
Label: 20 City
Country: New Zealand
Price: $7.00
"20 City is proud to release Uva, a new CD by sound artist Seth Nehil. In the field of electroacoustic music, Nehil is perhaps best known for his longstanding partnership with John Grzinich and Olivia Block as Alial Straa, formed in 1994. Nehil also participated in the Orogenetics arts collective together with Michael Northam and John Grzinich, operating in Austin, Texas from 1996-99. Now based in Portland, Oregon, Nehil continues to collaborate with Grzinich, Northam and Block in sound, performance and organization. Seth Nehil possesses an uncanny ability to create a wealth of sounds using innovative recording and performance techniques, without relying on effects boxes and processors. He creates complex sound environments that are subtle, clear and close. His sounds seem to emphasize the very silence that surrounds them, creating an infinite space for the listeners imagination to roam. Uva presents one track, just over 20 minutes in length. Objects in motion, a complex layering of textures, circular sounds and harmonies that intensify and recede... these are the constituent parts of this engaging new work. The term "uva" means grape, associated with ferment and intoxication, and is also associated with "ova" (the womb, birth, new forms). Uva thus implies the intoxication of new forms, the pleasure and disorienting quality of this music, the ferment of its creation, and the birth of its reception through the ear." - Richard di Santo.

Title: Early Tapes
Format: LP
Label: Dark Entries
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Dark Entries has dug deep into the early days of the Belgian cassette scene to release two tapes by The Neon Judgment in the form of one vinyl LP for the first time ever! These pioneers of underground electronic music hail from the small town of Leuven near Brussels, Belgium and gave birth to the New Beat and EBM scenes worldwide in 1981/2 with the release of their first two cassettes–neatly compiled here as Early Tapes. Always a consistent duo of Dirk Da Davo (synthesizers, vocals) and TB Frank (guitar, drum machine, vocals) The Neon Judgment worked in a parallel world alongside Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire, and the Deutsche Neue Welle recording under the watchful eyes of Roland Beelen (Antler-Subway) & Ludo Camerberlin (A Blaze Colour). Arriving just in time to celebrate the Neon Judgments 30th anniversary, Early Tapes showcases the bands brash and seedy lyrics, with raw synth stabs and repetitive drum machine beats adding to this rhythmic discourse. The result is a combination of lo-fi technology and emotional sincerity to create a sound both warm yet alienating that has stood the test of time and 30 years later, still evokes the same magic. The 10 songs on this LP were remastered from the original cassette masters resulting in a cohesive, gritty, maniacal dance program that sounds more relevant today than ever. Each sleeve is hand numbered in limited edition copies of 500 with an 11ױ1 lyric sheet including rare photos, a mini poster and two silk screened die-cut diagrams taken from the bands original synthesizer workbooks." - Dark Entries.

Title: Sleepwalker EP
Format: 12"
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $9.75
"The 6-song Sleepwalker EP by Nerve City—the one-man home recording project out of Richmond, VA—is the next installment in the Sacred Bones 12-inch EP series. Awash in the whips and twangs of a spring loaded reverb tank and faint hints of a distant drum kit, Nerve Citys hook-driven songs recall the hard-charging down-strokes of the Velvet Undergrounds more driving moments or, more recently, the psychedelia of West coast kindred spirits in Sic Alps and the Gris Gris. Over the past several years, the band has cemented a rep both live and on record. First came the Catholic School demo tape and the follow-up, Hell (both via Amateur Depression), then quickly sides on Severed Hand, Kill Shaman, HoZac, and Sweet Rot. For the most part, those releases are now completely gone." -Sacred Bones.

Title: Troubled
Format: CD
Label: Companion
Country: USA
Price: $10.50
"Welcome to the first commercial release of Troubled, the sole output from Vancouver, British Columbias all-but-forgotten Jesus rock trio, the New Creation. Originally pressed in 1970 in the vinyl LP format in a limited run, this album never quite made it out of its hometown borders. It would be another two or three decades before anyone outside of the groups small circle would hear it at all. The obscurity of this album is impossible to overstate. Only 100 vinyl copies were ever produced and none were available commercially. The New Creation were partly inspired by the music of the Jesus People movement, a Christian adaptation of the 60s movement, which shared the same Haight-Ashbury district birthplace. Jesus People patterned their language, fashion, and music after their hippie neighbors in an attempt to update their expression of faith. This street level movement gained mainstream media exposure around 1970 and within a year cover stories ran in Newsweek, Life, and U.S. News and World Report. Musicians in this scene plotted their own course in an attempt to counteract what they saw as the destructive themes in much of mainstream rock music. Acts born out of this grassroots movement would inspire believers worldwide to cut their own record -- contract or no contract." - Companion. "A showcase of raw, inventive musicality. Categorically, its -- I dunno -- Sixties Garage Godcore? Yet it transcends being a mere period piece. The songwriting is deliriously brilliant, the lyrical perspective haunting. The bands sincerity is unquestionable, even if its meters are unfathomable." - Irwin Chusid.

Title: Disassociate
Format: LP
Label: Avant Savant
Country: USA
Price: $12.25
"A line drawn in space gradually separates into countless pieces leaving a specter of its former self. On New Humans second release, Disassociate, each track undergoes geometric growth and decay through multiple passing states. With over 25 names for each track, the recording opens with a drone monolith later destabilizing into undulating segments and then finally shattering into a series of interlocking parts. Recorded and engineered by Sean Maffucci at Junkyard Audio Salvage in Brooklyn, the expansive compositions employ an array of sonic and beat combinations created by electric guitars, acoustic drums, oscillators, and handmade effects. In its transformations, each momentary form gives way to the next creating incidental tangents with minimalist drone, early synth music, extreme noise, and Miami trunk bass. For best results play recording at high volume in continuous sequence with subwoofer or substantial low frequency sound system. Vinyl edition of 300 features hand silk-screened glow-in-the dark jacket design and oversized poster insert. Released on Avant/Savant (Mexico City, New York)"

Format: CDR
Label: New Humans
Country: USA
Price: $9.00
"On New Humans new self-titled CD, the minimalist impulse is harnessed across disparate lines to create raw and improbable compositions, rendering an almost visual experience to listening. Unraveled, deconstructed and repurposed: sonic passages and genre motifs are treated as block and geometric progressions of sound, noise and rhythm. From the systematic meltdown of Sabbath-like doom riffage to the relentless super deformation of Riley and Brancas legacy, each track builds and clear cuts at the same time documenting a body of performances and installation projects by the New Humans in the past two years. New Humans is a hand silk-screened limited edition CD of 200 with custom insert." - New Humans.

Title: AKA
Format: CD
Label: Semishigure
Country: Germany
Price: $16.00
"Noise surrounds and permeates us, and no one is more responsible than the New Humans from that loudest and noisiest of metropolises: New York. From installation art to ear splitting live concerts, this infernal power trio lead by artist Mika Tajimi eschews no collaboration, no matter how insane. Guitarist and artistic leader Tajimi is supported by electronics specialist and voice acrobat Howie Chen, drummer Eric Tsai, as well as a large number of guest musicians. The New Humans like nothing more than to drag friend and foe with them into their noise avalanches. Semishigure proudly presents the fourth release, a unique live collaboration with artist Vito Acconci, a pioneer of body/conceptual art, and vintage experimentalist C. Spencer Yeh. This album consists of two concerts that took place during an exposition of the collective at the Elizabeth Dee Gallery in New York. Two electrifying, memorable performances that just had to be registered on CD. The last time American performance legend Vito Acconci collaborated with a band was more than ten years ago, when he worked with punk rock brigade the Mekons. A similarly untainted, classically grim punk attitude shines through in his spoken word performance with the New Humans. “You in the Background” is the name of their jointly raised middle finger to the world. Floating on the ominously swelling waves of noise created by the New Humans, Acconci throws all frustrations overboard. Captive to a feverish, shamanic trip, Acconci speaks of each and everyones search for their own identity. Acconci has made a special selection from his audio works for the occasion. Texts such as “Now do you believe the dirty dogs are dead” (1978) and “Cry, baby!” (1977) still sound like screams for enlightenment and liberation. C. Spencer Yehs plaintive violin careens into the impenetrable wailing wall of feedback. The New Humans not just voice, but scream their anger of life under the Bush regime, and in Acconci they have found a worthy ally. C. Spencer Yeh and the New Humans go the whole hog on the second live concert, an immensely loud drone s顮ce lasting half an hour. Like no other, radical violinist Yeh manages to infiltrate any collective, be it Dream/Aktion Unit, Comets of Fire or Smegma. Through his trademark exorcising Velvets violin sound Yeh manages to create unbearable tension with the New Humans sound avalanches in hot pursuit. During the performance, a glass sculpture is destroyed and the noise of its breaking amplified. At any moment the waves of noise terror threaten to submerge Yeh, but he stands firm. Thank God this all-engulfing live experience has been registered for posterity!" -Semishigure.

Title: Songs for... A Fallow Land
Format: LP
Label: Fixed Identity
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Fixed Identity is proud to announce the release of Martin Newells 1985 masterpiece "Songs For A Fallow Land". Newell, mastermind of UK d.i.y. group The Cleaners From Venus, crafted these songs in an old stable building in self-described "extreme poverty" resulting in an extremely inspired and highly personal realization of perfect underground psychedelic pop. Originally released in an edition of 100 cassettes, F.I. has remastered each song from Martins original chrome tapes to be issued on LP in a limited pressing of 500 copies containing liner notes by the "Wild Man Of Wivenhoe" himself." - Fixed Identity.

"The featured writer of the inaugural issue is Lionel Ziprin, a legendary figure and lifelong resident of the Lower East Side whose curious body of writing includes the one-thousand page epic poem, Sentencial Metaphrastic, as well as the highly off-kilter childrens poems that make up Songs for Schizoid Siblings. The Nightjar Review has excerpted the most ample selection from Songs to date, which were composed in the mid 1950s at a time when Ziprin ran a greeting card company that employed such future luminaries as Bruce Conner, Jordan Belson, and Harry Smith. The Songs were composed in the manner of Mother Goose rhymes and are infused with his own rendering of alchemy and the Kaballah. The first issue of The Nightjar Review is 144 pages perfect bound, with a silk screened dust jacket featuring a new drawing by the artist Bruce Conner. Additonal contributions come from Anja Buechele, Dante Carfagna (Express Rising), Diane Cluck, inoli, Shannon Ketch, Michael Klausman, Angus MacLise, Peter Relic, Jeremy Rendina, John Fell Ryan (Excepter), Dave Tompkins, and Yvonne." - Nightjar Review.

Title: Love Me Two Times
Format: Double CD
Label: Intransitive
Country: USA
Price: $13.25
"The highly anticipated double-CD epic by Jason Lescalleet (tape loops) and nmperign (Bhob Rainey - soprano sax, and Greg Kelley - trumpet). The result of six years of live and studio collaboration, LM2X is by far the most ambitious and uncompromising statement yet by this formidable trio. The album begins as a more-or-less straight documentary-style recording of group improvisation, but dont get too comfortable... over the course of the next two hours, the ground steadily shifts, the bottom drops out, and any expectations a listener may have had going in are thoroughly trampled. Fans will find the usual ingredients here: crusty old reel-to-reel tape decks, cheap keyboards, amplified and acoustic horns...but rude tape splices, violent humor, and confusingly degraded fidelity push the music far from safe territory. The visceral drama of LM2X does not neatly spell out its intentions, nor does it signal exactly what it has up its sleeve. It exists in its own universe, demands repeat listens and to be taken on its own terms." - Intransitive.

No Balls is Drajan Bryngelsson and Dan R墥rg from Brainbombs. "Out now is the second and new LP of No Balls from Sweden. Sexually driven, mean and nasty ProtoPunk with NoWave hints. A vast play with associations, let the songtitles sink and fill the voids yourself for this raw in-your-face assault. Again a very good vinyl mastering that displays the details clearly and carves out the edges very precisely. Edition of 650 copies in cooperation with Who can you trust? Records." - Streaks.

Format: 7"
Label: Yik Yak
Country: USA
Price: $3.50
"Another well-smoked slab of glorious "what the fuck?" by visionary caterwaulers of chaos and ex-Chicago blues cruisers, No Doctors. Equal parts backwards boogie and straight skullfucking confusion, "T-Bone Pt. 1" stomps one through hard and thick, slinging broken barn-boned riffs that collide head on with sputtering cross-eyed measures of brilliance and back again. "T-Bone Pt. 2" ensues after a quick flip to side B as you and your square-minded notions are slapped straight in the face with a wet hose spewing talkin box (!) snarl and ultimately delivers your blown mind on a broken piece of hobo-stew stained porcelain." - Noel Von Harmonson (Comets On Fire). "Like the Grateful Dead and Royal Trux, No Doctors possess the ability to start off playing the most rudimentary of folk forms and then subtly shift into exploded, free-form sonic excursions." - Justin F. Farrar (East Bay Express).

Title: Letters From the Earth
Format: Double CD
Label: Very Friendly
Country: UK
Price: $11.00
"Co-released with the Ser label, this double CD outputs 111 or so minutes worth of this groups dizzying array of sonic blattage, cable disruption, tribal tranceadelics and trip or drone aesthetic. Have heard that this was largely recorded on a NYC rooftop, but you certainly cant hear any breeze -- there is, however, some serious driftage going on all over the place. Out-of-nowhere double album magnum opuses tend to go on to have genre defining significance, and its easy to see this one having research visibility for decades to come, as the pinnacle of its contemporary scene. Packaged in a slimline jewel case (to assure those worried this thing would come wrapped in tree bark or something), with an intriguing multi-page booklet of almost Gysin-esque hieroglyphics."- Forced Exposure (1996). "1998 release repressed. 2nd No Neck Blues Band CD on Sound @ One. Its a bit of sequel to the their monolithic double CD Letters From The Earth, as it was recorded exactly one year to the day later (Orthodox Easter, 1997), at the same location -- on the roof of their building in Chinatown in the afternoon. Its only a single CD this time because as youll hear at the end, its starts raining. It features the regular NNB crew, plus their newest member, the enigmatic Japanese dancer/icon, Michiko. Cool and oblique packaging that doesnt go out of its way to tell you the artist name or catalog # or anything mundane like that." - FE.

"Jewel-cased, metallic-ink-cover reissue of the CD originally released by John Faheys Revenant label. Recorded June 1999 at Willow Sound. Produced by Jerry Yester." - S@1. "Our late founder John Faheys favorite new band, the No-Necks have actually been enjoying underground hero status in upper/lower Manhattan for nearly a ghost-decade. Seven fairly wooly guys and gals create off-the-cuff shaman musics, often stumbling into a groove as irresistible as the swamp-choogle of vintage Creedence. Blues for fans of Beefheart, early Royal Trux, Dock Boggs and Heliocentric Worlds-era Sun Ra, Sticks and Stones presents the fractal sound-image of No Neck as captured in snapshot form by producer Jerry Yester (Tom Waits, Tim Buckley, Lovin Spoonful) at his studio in the Ozarks." - Revenant.

Title: Embryonnck
Format: LP
Label: Sound@one/Staubgold
Country: UK
Price: $13.25
"New York mavericks No Neck Blues Band and Munich-based Krautrock band Embryo explore the indigenous urban music phenomenon on this, their debut collaborative release. The No Neck Blues Band are one of the most enigmatic, mysterious, and defiantly anti-commercial groups to emerge from the New York loft scene during the °ƹ0s. The collective was formed in 1992 around a core of multi-instrumentalists who have stubbornly and admirably insisted on individual anonymity. Incorporating elements of folk, drone, psychedelia, free jazz, noise, and just about everything else, NNCK have nevertheless carved out a distinctive sound from complementary and disparate component elements. One of the most original and innovative Krautrock bands, Embryo fused traditional ethnic music with their own jazzy space rock style. Over their 30-year existence, during which Christian Burchard has been the only consistent member, the group has traveled the world, playing with hundreds of different musicians and releasing over twenty records. Melding their wildly diverse forays into experimental, blues, Middle Eastern, Turkish and African music, these two groups have since become brothers in unparalleled improvisatory spirit, and EmbryoNNCK is the fruit of that merge. To quote Christian Burchard, °∞The NNCK players were flying... Little melodies we never had heard, different moods, rhythmic interplays, and in between the musicmaking it was like we had been together all the time.°± This should be one of the most transcendent releases of the year." - Staubgold. Heavy jacket including a full color poster and inserts.

Title: Haraam, Circle of Flame
Format: CD
Label: Release The Bats
Country: Sweden
Price: $11.00
"Nonhorse is the solo act of Gabriel Lucas Crane from Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice and this is his debut album. On Haraam, piles of mysterious old cassettes are used as source material to create magic in a stunning way over 42 moody minutes. Different audio fragments on top of each other, over and over again, hand-mixed and orchestrated at what feels like must have been ritualistic tape laborations taken place somewhere where the sun never shines. Various echoes from the past are buried under layers and layers of manipulated voices, train signals, animal sounds and god knows what. Abrupt endings which burns like fire in your head. Churches in flames, the soundtrack to The House With The Laughing Windows played backwards, alien autopsys, cemetery fog, total devestation... Haraam is a beautiful junkyard nightmare, a horrifying and atmospheric album. 13 songs. Mastered by Pete Swanson. 500 pressed. packaged in a full colour cardboard wallet with a double sided insert in a sealed plasticbag." - Release The Bats.

Title: Vacation To Nowhere
Format: LP
Label: Last Laugh
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"New Orleans punk premiers The Normals have long been considered staples of the KBD stew, with their first and last single “Almost Ready” b/w “Hardcore” being one of the finest examples of both melodic and manic late 1970s bashing. As a compliment to their reissue of that timeless 7”, the freaks at Last Laugh Records have dug up what may qualify as one of the primo “lost albums” of the original American punk rock cream-dream, Vacation To Nowhere. And while this isnt the first time that enlightened members of the public have been given a chance to hear some of the 12 throttling tracks contained on this album (Airline 61 released the retrospective CD Your Punk Heritage in the late 1990s), this is the first time that these recordings have been released as a complete album. Each song on Vacation... stands as a perfect example of 70s power pop craft coarsely blended with spasmodic intensity – late 70s punk polenta. Even with the oddly out of place sentimentality expressed on “Memories”, the band never veers off course. Songs like “Sometimes The Truth”, “What Do You Think Of The U.S.A.?”, and the titular “Vacation To Nowhere”, are (at this point) theoretical classics – I imagine Teengenerate would have covered at least half of this album, had they heard it in 1993. These songs are so good in fact, that they seem familiar and inviting, like something that one returns to rather than discovers for the first time." - Victim Of Time.

Artist: NOTHING, CHARLIE
Title: Charlie Nothing & Dingulator
Format: Cass
Label: Destijl
Country: USA
Price: $4.00
"Charlie Nothing & Dingulator was one of the seemingly myriad 80s Charlie Nothing cassettes and its inclusion was, in part, intended within a 2CD anthology that wed planned but the amount of material is too great and the moments therein are too grand to even dream of an edit. Although this is fairly late in Mr Nothings oeuvre, we cant think of a more fully realized statement regarding the scope of his playing recycled automotive steel guitars and the performing of his Big Dingulator Song Sweet (or Suite, as it were, a concept of his that implied all songs were but one song) than a reissue of this 1985 manifesto-like piece. What you are about to hear is... Dingulation." -Destijl.

Field recordings, layers of majestic droning sounds, buried voices, percussion... Recorded in Linnavuori and Wellington from 2005 to 2007. "Vinyl debut of the long anticipated LP by Noel Von Harmonson (Comets on Fire, NVH) and Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets On Fire). Guitar and electronics are deposited in a sacrificial heap at the gates of hell, sickly intertwined and indistinguishable. Bathed in the blood of apocalyptic alchemy, this caterwauling creature rears two heads and screams one wrathful scream. Recorded to two-track tape in San Francisco over the winter of 2005 and mastered by Hans Gruesel at the Krankenkabinet; features deluxe, hand screened black-on-black multipanel packaging.
