Title: Is Night People
Format: CD
Label: Release The Bats
Country: Sweden
Price: $12.00
"Swirling sax-and-effects-heavy free-form punk from Iowa Citys Raccoo-oo-oon. Is Night People is their first magical recording, 7 organic rituals creating a majestic outlet of neverending energy. Beautiful cascades of manipulated vocals and layers of feedback melting together over sunny explosions of insane drumming. In the vein of Sun City Girls, Here Comes The Indian-era Animal Collective, Excepter etc. The cd comes in a letterpressed black Arigato Pak with gold ink made by Stumptown Printers and stunning art by Shawn Reed in the band." - Release The Bats.

Title: Two Bites Of A Bitter Sweet
Format: 7"
Label: Evolving Ear
Country: USA

"Very first release of all electronic music from this bigwig of the global improv/noise/experimental underground, known for his work alongside trumpeter Greg Kelley in the influential duo, nmperign, his direction of the improvising juggernaut, The BSC, and collaborations with Jason Lescalleet, Gunter Muller, Ralf Wehowsky, Le Quan Ninh, Alessandro Bosetti, and Michel Doneda, among others. This new music ranges from homemade synth textures to field recordings from Lisbon, Venice, Huelva, and other, unremembered locations. Theres some singing by Naomi Yang (Damon and Naomi) and Bhob himself, and some words of wisdom from Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Overall, a woozy alternate reality is offered for repeated dream pool swims. Edition of 300." - Evolving Ear.

Artist: RAMASES
Title: Space Hymns
Format: LP
Label: Mexican Summer
Country: USA
Price: $16.50
Hand-numbered edition of 2000. "In 1971, a message was delivered from an Egyptian god through his vessel to the youth of the world via the infamous Vertigo label. That vessel was one Martin Raphael, an central heating salesman from Sheffield, shocked into servitude by Ramases in order to preach his word. Backed by the band Hotlegs, who were moments away from being known as 10cc, Ramases created this one-of-a-kind cosmic folk rarity, a bizarre and alluring message of peace and the supernatural, housed in a six-panel Roger Dean gatefold designed to make your pupils dilate. Mexican Summer proudly presents an exact reissue of the first Ramases LP, available domestically after almost 40 years of a secret existence." -Mexican Summer.

Artist: RANGERS
Title: Suburban Tours
Format: LP
Label: Olde English Spelling Bee
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Rangers is Joe Knight. "Suburban Tours" is his debut vinyl release after a string of popular cassette albums last year - including "Low Cut Fades" on Not Not Fun. His sound has been referred to out in blogland as "elevator psyche" and "mirrorball funknagogic pop" - and thats not a bad start considering his music is often bass-driven with washes of synth and prog-psych guitar riding over the top. Unlike the extended side-long collages of his cassette releases, "Suburban Tours" is a collection of eleven concise "pop" songs that were written and recorded after moving to San Francisco from his native Texas. Not knowing anyone in this new locale, he describes the period after the move as being extremely lonely and plagued with near-constant rainfall. So he holed up and focused his attentions on recording a batch of songs that reflected on his suburban upbringing outside of Dallas and what he calls the "failed connections with nature" that exist in these suburban zones (fake lighting, cranked-up air conditioning, golf courses, and gated "communities" where everyone keeps to themselves). But despite the loneliness and melancholic themes there is a remarkable amount of color to his music. Like its the sound of what hed want to have playing on his headphones while riding a bike thru these neighborhoods -- the sound necessary to make these places seem lively and fun. Music blog Visitation Rites hits the nail on the head when saying "his music reflects a parallel fixation with the tape reel as a cutting board for the psychic trappings of middle class American youth." Rangers is drawing from an entirely different set of musical influences than the rest of his peers - combining a passion for Manchesters Northern Soul sound with early 80s rock radio staples like Rush and The Police and the 70s prog-fusion of Weather Report. Plus hes got the chops to pull off this unlikely union -- in fact the cutting engineer for "Suburban Tours" was utterly baffled and commented that it sounded to him like a lost Steely Dan session recorded onto a mangled microcassette tape. Thats a good thing, right? Full color pro-printed covers and insert - also includes a download coupon for the mp3 version." - OESB.

Artist: REAL ESTATE
Title: Reality
Format: LP
Label: Mexican Summer
Country: USA
Price: $15.75
"Long-awaited 12" from one of the most blogged about bands in Brooklyn. Amazing, infectious fuzz-pop that establishes Ridgewood, New Jersey as the current cultural center of these United States. Genre straddling, mind-bending, indierockpopsurfjanglepunk craziness. The massive amount of press attention given to these guys doesnt begin to do justice to their universal appeal and brilliant songwriting. One of the most anticipated records in the history of Mexican Summer and well worth the wait. Features Matt Mondanile of Ducktails." - Mexican Summer. Repressed.

Artist: REBEL, THE
Title: Northern Rocks Bear Weird Vegetable
Format: LP
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Sacred Bones Records presents Northern Rocks Bear Weird Vegetable—the next full-length from London, Englands The Rebel. The alter ego of Country Teasers Ben Wallers, The Rebel dates back to the tail-end of the 80s—having existed side-by-side throughout the Teasers prolific career—often releasing records at a steadier clip than Wallers main project with songs too madcap to fit into even their William- Burroughs-by-way-of-The-Residents take on country music. Wallers characteristic self-aware irony and surreal gender/race ruminations are still present but sitting backseat in this more fleshed out concept album about decaying conditions on the planet 3ar7h. Although Burroughs comparisons are inevitable, Northern Rocks Bear Weird Vegetable could only have been scripted by The Rebel. The albums narrator is in a band, has a valet named Mulholland, but inhabits an otherwise unrecognizable dystopian landscape where evil science laboratories combat college radio personalities, and nuclear war with Iran is well underway. Important issues of today and tomorrow are touched on. In “Why Must I Pay?” Mr. Thatcher, a future Prime Minister, is excoriated for the rising costs of tea, rent, drugs and sex. In “Scarlett Johansen Conceiving the Design” we are shown a horrific world in which starlets replace scientists as consumerdoms inventors. In “Youre Just Like Tammy Wynette” the Radical Islam Problem is diagnosed by looking at the politics of ladies headgear, while in “Turtle v. Octopus” a battle between Lovecraftian ancient adversaries plays out, potentially affecting the future of Music itself. This is the first Rebel album to be recorded in the studio with a live backing band...that band being Country Teasers. In terms of sound, Northern Rocks Bears Weird Vegetable exchanges The Rebels clautrophobic home studio layers and d.i.y. effects for the improvisational band chemistry and controlled looseness of Country Teasers infamous live act." - Sacred Bones.

Artist: REIKO KUDO
Title: Rice Field Silently Riping In The Night
Format: CD
Label: Majikick / Periodic Document
Country: USA
Price: $9.50
"There are times when all the music your bruised psyche can take is the softest of whispers, the slightest of instrumental caresses. When an ounce too much pressure could make your veins cave inwards. At times like these, Reiko Kudos previous solo album ("Fire inside my hat", Org Records, 1997) has always been my balm of choice. A gauze-thin collection of songs with minimal piano accompaniment, sung in a voice half between a child and a deeply hesitant angel... For those who would rather trust a history lesson than their own senses, Reiko Omura, as she was known then, first came to light on the Tokyo underground in the late seventies and early eighties. She was part of the Minor circle (which also gave birth to Fushitsusha, High Rise, Kosokuya, Gaseneta and many others) of musical obsessives exploring new and highly personal collisions of noise, improv, rock. Reikos contribution was via groups like Worst Noise and Noise. The latters sole release, "Tenno", saw her trumpet and voice meeting the Bach-doom organ and drums of influential scenester Tori Kudo in a totally unique monument to no-wave noise depression. She later married Kudo, appearing occasionally with his avant-pop Christo-mystic idiot-savant group Maher Shalal Hash Baz, but releasing nothing under her own name until the Org disk in the late nineties. "Rice field..." sees Reiko revisiting the pattern of short songs mostly based around one-finger piano motifs, so structurally simple as to be virtually transparent. This time additional flashes of sensitive instrumental colour are added by husband Tori and various members of the Puka-Puka Brians on wavering backing vocals, violin, guitar, percussion, euphonium and percussion. The music treads a sure and private path between a perfect childlike naivete and the amateur aesthetic that has long been Toris goal (he has spent twenty years arriving at a point of psychedelic mastery where he sounds like he bought his first guitar yesterday). Reikos songs and vocals are the weakly pulsing centrepoint though. She sings of life, dying flowers, love, and nursing home residents with the unforced naturalness of a mother alone with her child, a bird in the forest, her pellucid melodies seemingly accidental. It is nothing short of heart-stoppingly gorgeous. And as an honest-to-god example of happiness glimpsed through the quotidian, artistic perfection all the more perfect for not being striven for, you couldnt wish for anything more. A perfect prescription for those moments of fragility when you doubt your own pulse." -Alan Cummings. "A short, sweet album of lilting beauty and disarming fragility. Essentially, Maher Shalal Hash Baz in everything but name, but from the feminine perspective of the very talented Reiko, wife of M.S.H.B. leader Tori Kudo. [JG]" - Other Music. A corelease between the Tokyo based label Majikick and the New York based Periodic Document.

Artist: RELIGIOUS KNIVES
Title: Resin
Format: CD
Label: No Fun
Country: USA
Price: $8.50
"Since their first release for No Fun Productions, the collection of early LPs/singles entitled Remains, the Religious Knives have grown into a stunningly assured and powerful rock n roll band of sorts, one liberally and noticeably immersed in the smoke-addled haze of the psychedelic underground. Resin marches ahead with a vigorous potency that accurately shares its bloodline with the best psychedelic acts of the past. This is Brooklyns true Psychedelic Rock." - No Fun.

Artist: RENE HELL/THREE LEGGED RACE
Title: Violin Petal {Auden}/Whipped Secrets
Format: LP
Label: Arbor
Country: USA
Price: $10.50
"Rene Hell and Three Legged Race investigate the space where classically outsider musical forms begin to intersect with more popular ones. Taking cues from science fiction and early electronic / tape music and translating them through lens of minimal techno and the personal logic of bedroom recording; both creating something unclassifiable in its hybrid form. Rene Hells four part suite Violin Petal {Auden} follows his recent LP on Type with its distinct form of digital synthesis and future-concr®®te; cyclic music expanding and contracting throughout a cybernetic space. The confusion of communication, control source unknown. Signals crossed along a technological drift. Robert Beattys Three Legged Race presents a three part suite, Whipped Secrets. Investigating herein an application of early automatic synthesizer music manipulated into linear form based song structure. Developing softly, the first movement sounds like a loner folk recording from a distant future time; complete with vocals, staring sad eyed across an open expanse, contemplating the state of things. Slowly, this form unravels into a more abstract and automatic based territory; rhythmic and melodic staccato signals possessed with an almost intelligent logic of their own. Communication shifts from the man to his machine. In an edition of 400 copies with glossy jackets featuring images by each artist and printed inner sleeves and center labels designed by Jeff Witscher." - Arbor

Artist: ROB JO STAR BAND
Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Pomme
Country: France
Price: $13.25
"One of the French mega-rarities, released on the same label as Zartong. The content is deranged psychedelic underground with strong guitars, studio effects and vocals in English. The album has been the subject of much hype among record dealers recently." -Asbjornsen-Scented Gardens Of The Mind. "Very great & unknown French quasi prog/psych hard rocker originally released on the Dom label in 1975. Even amongst the European psychedelic cognoscenti, Rob Jo Star Bands sole lp is somewhat of an enigma. Careening forward & stumbling over 13th Floor Elevators bleeb alien moves, Velvet Underground sustained vibes & Stooges-like guitar fuzz, Rob Joe Star created a singular masterpiece that is truly incomparable to anything released in or around its time (circa 1975). Along with the Angel Face Wild Odyssey lp, one of Frances long obscured musical treasures. French import, edition of 300." - Pomme. Very highly recommended!

Artist: ROBEDOOR
Title: Endlessly Blazing
Format: LP
Label: Woodsist
Country: USA
Price: $10.00
"Eagle Rock, CAs Robedoor are back with another doomed out K-hole. Slow creeping drones building to some nice loner caveman pound/ real song territory. Three tracks in just under 40 minutes. edition of 500 with full color jacket. Artwork by Jeremy Earl." - Woodsist. "Another bowl of black wax lit up and littered into the smogset. Another half hour in the haze, burned and overturned. "Endlessly Blazing" loads together a trio of semi-recent resin sessions: the A is a sidelong sinkhole into lava and quaaludes, the B starts with a sprawling spiral sweetleaf ballad before convulsing into a pissed withdrawal of dread drums, electronic fumes, and damaged howling. Hold it in as long as you can" -?

Title: Shapeshifter Slave
Format: LP
Label: Olde English Spelling Bee
Country: USA
Price: $12.25
"Shapeshifters are messengers and imitators of the gods. Shapeshifters can be divine or human. Crossing boundaries between sacred and evil, they often bring messages, power or punishment from the gods. Shapeshifting is used to gain access to the tower. They are able to turn any situation around. Nothing is too much or too little. The shapeshifter can invert a life-threatening situation into one where he triumphs. This form of shapeshifting is most commonly painless but can be traumatic if the change was unintentional; clothing is rarely lost in this process. Edited, assembled, and mastered with assistance from Pete Swanson of the Yellow Swans. Ectoplasmic cover art conjured by Frances Parisse Bruno. Pro-printed black and white covers and insert. Limited edition of 425 copies." - Olde English Spelling Bee.

Format: LP
Label: Destijl

Price: $12.25
"destijl is pleased to present the first archival digs into the wondrous world of lee rockey. lee was a hardswinging jazzbo who had mastered the modern style by 46, and became known as one of the vancouver whiz kids. he went to the city in 53, jammed with neil hefti, and appeared on the first few herbie mann recs ( plays bethlehem BCP-58, east coast jazz / 4 bethlehem BCP-1018). upon his left coast return, he began developing his own sound / style, with an intent of transcending traditional musical forms / expectations. ju suk reet meate caught one of his performances in early 76, and lee became a figure of big inspiration. hed eventually invite lee to play on a few early smegma recs. aside from a few record booth lathes cut in the 40s / 50s, this is his first solo release. on first spin there are a few brief moments when the sounds of toshi ichiyanagi come to mind, but these sounds inhabit a universe that is entirely that of lee rockey. tho the pieces contained on this rec were recorded from the yrs 59 to 73, they own a keen third eye prescience that portends the likes of c spencer yeh and axolotl. this is far / away the most modern sounding rec to ever brandish the destijl logo, and youll scratch yr head until the kingdom comes.." - Destijl.

Artist: ROOTS OF MADNESS
Title: The Girl In The Chair
Format: LP
Label: Destijl
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"1971 heavy private press free blues/psych from the left coast cortical geo zone of the US underground chain spearheaded by Don Campau and essentially the Californian amalgam of the Gate 5 as ESP disk punk/jazz 3rd eye. A higher key farrago of hypercosmic extended runs that oscillate between the tubular philosophy of the Sun City Girls sound/art and the aloneness of stoned blues concr®¶te. A refreshing lost artifact of pure American fizz resurrected from the iconoclasm void and perfectly reissued in a joint effort from De Stijl and Child Of Microtones. An essential LP for anyone concerned with the paramount energy fields of all the above ground sound subterrains." - Destijl. Highly recommended!

Artist: ROSSETTO, VANESSA
Title: Mineral Orange
Format: LP
Label: KYE
Country: USA
Price: $11.50
"Vanessa Rossetto is a composer and painter living in Austin, Texas. She uses primarily chamber instrumentation, field recordings, electronics and a wide array of different objects, exploring them through extended and traditional techniques. In 2008, she launched her own CD-R label, Music Appreciation, and through this imprint has released four solo albums: Misafridal, Imperial Brick, Whoreson in the Wilderness and the award-winning Dogs in English Porcelain. Her most recent release, the PDD-NOS (Period Tapes) cassette was described by Byron Coley in The Wire as sounding like being under attack from slow-moving dune worms. Mineral Orange presents four new works, each showcasing Vanessas deep commitment to abstract sound situations. These pieces exist as precision-edited travelogs of Vanessas questing. Local sounds, audio verite and overlayed string interludes are scrambled into surreal matrices of time, place and event. Mineral Orange was recorded and produced in Austin, Texas in 2010, with additional production by Steven Flato and mastering by Jason Lescalleet at Glistening Labs, ME. Mineral Orange arrives in an elegant Rossetto-designed sleeve, in a hand-numbered edition of 300 copies." - KYE.

Label: Minimal Wave
Country: USA
Price: $18.50
"Minimal Wave proudly presents a full length LP by Ruins, an Italian electro-wave duo. Ruins formed in Mestre in 1978 with the intention of experimenting with electronic devices and mixed media. They mainly created music out of self-expression without any intention of joining the mainstream. Interested in multimedia, they had a strong visual aesthetic apparent via their album art, videos and projections. Their classic hit °Ɔire is one of our favorites to date, so powerful with its great energy and beautiful production (I dont like your job / I dont like your games / I dont wanna be just a sleep-machine). Its where Italo meets Minimal Wave. The Fire videos are a must-see in order to grasp the full effect of the song, check out the first version here and rare second version here. The LP entitled "The Art Dance" features a collection of songs recorded between 1980-1984, some previously released, others never released before pressed on 180 gram vinyl and housed in a lovely hand-numbered glossy gatefold jacket lined with the bands history and photos, and accompanied by a lyrics insert sheet." - Minimal Wave.

Title: 21st Century Field Hollers and Prison Songs
Format: LP
Label: Rococo
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"This album has been made entirely from samples taken from the Midnight Crossroads Tape Recorder Blues album, which I made with Ralf Wehowsky for A Bruit Secret. Like that album it is a tribute to the spirit of the blues, viewed through a prism of 21st century cultural criticism. It evokes an earlier era when the relationship between a performer and a song arose out of a community, not a property relation.. In appropriating my own material I have short-circuited the prevailing ethos of piracy and bricolage, and returned in a sense, to my self. Despite being made in New Zealand, and using some recordings from the Rhineland, the two places that are really central to this album are the Mississippi Delta and the island of Jamaica. - Bruce Russell (Dead C)." - Rococo. Artist: RV PAINTINGS
Title: Samoa Highway
Format: LP
Label: Helen Scarsdale Agency
Country: USA
Price: $10.75
"RV Paintings were born in California. Humboldt County, to be exact. It is nearly impossible to imagine their origins being elsewhere since the brothers Brian and Jon Pyle, who currently pilot RV Paintings, constantly mine the metaphysical properties of their homeland through a heavy-lidded psychedelia. The redwood trees that majestically rise from the rugged terrain may have been one of the endemic objects that inspired RV Paintings to "jam nature;" but Humboldt Countys other major cash crop -- marijuana -- cannot be far behind. As much as the Pyle brothers channel a psychotropic animism through sound, their diaphanous drones and foggy ambient tangles spring from a schematic intelligence that belies any method acting of getting stoned and jamming in a room. Samoa Highway is the second full album for RV Paintings, following the nature jam transmissions of Trinity Rivers published by Root Strata in 2007 and a well-suited split LP with Taiga Remains from Blackest Rainbow. Just as the debut payed homage to the rugged river system that cuts through forests and mountains of the region, Samoa Highway refers to the lengthy bridge that runs between two coastal communities in Humboldt County, one of which houses a municipal airport. A swarm of drone guitars announces the opening of the record on "Millions," with a shoegaze wash collapsing into rarified tone purity and bulging through a metallic buzz. Field recordings of airplane take-off and firework explosions punctuate the undulating bleary smear of the Pyle brothers guitars. The result is one of levitation, even as RV Paintings seem to be plugging their guitars and electronics directly into the moss, soil, and mycelia of the Humboldt forest. Echo-soaked flutes, maudlin strings, scabrous noises unearthed from the bottom of the Pacific, and a cinematic arcs of guitar shimmer complete the beautiful and haunted miasma of Samoa Highway that falls somewhere between Taj Mahal Travellers, Organum, and The Caretaker. Brian Pyle may be best known as one of the founders of the Starving Weirdos and records his solo work as Ensemble Economique. Samoa Highway stands the first piece of vinyl published by Helen Scarsdale Agency and includes a code for a digital download. Pressed in an edition of 500 copies." -Helen Scarsdale Agency.
